Her mother, Martina Magenau Jacobs was a Carnegie Mellon University director of alumni relations for the Heinz College. Her family was led by her father, William F. Jacobs Jr. Lebanon. She is of French German, Irish, as well as Scottish ancestry. Her parents are of French German, Irish and Scottish descent. Her father John Martin Magenau Jr. was President and CEO at the Jackson Koehler Eagle Brewery in Erie Pennsylvania which had been established in 1847. The brewery closed in 1978. Jacobs studied acting from the age of 8 and went to Saturday school at Pittsburgh Playhouse. Mt. Lebanon High School in 2000 Jacobs was able to move into New York City New York for a place at the Juilliard School where she was a member of the drama division's group 33. She graduated in 2004 with a bachelor's degree.
